BOOMERVERSE YARN #003
The Mug That Came Back
Boomer lost a coffee mug beside the Gateway. Two days later, somebody returned it. Sort of.
FunnyMysteryRiftFuture Clue
The Original Boomer had already accepted that his second enamel mug was gone. Not stolen, exactly. More… borrowed by something with terrible manners and apparently no intention of washing up.
So he bought another one, tossed it in his pack and decided that was the end of it.
Two mornings later, Boomer was walking an old track near the Gateway when he stopped dead.
Sitting neatly on top of a moss-covered stump was his missing mug.
Same dent on the rim. Same burnt mark near the handle. Same faded words on the side.
He looked around.
Nothing moved.
“Righto,” he said. “Very funny.”
He picked the mug up.
Empty.
Clean.
Not even a coffee stain.
Then something rattled inside.
Boomer tipped it over and a tarnished teaspoon dropped into his hand.
“That’s not mine.”
He turned it over.
Four letters were stamped into the handle.
ZEEHAN.
Boomer stared at the spoon for a few seconds, then at the trees.
Somewhere deeper in the bush came one quiet metallic clink.
Boomer waited.
Nothing else followed.
He slipped the spoon into his pocket, put the mug back in his pack and continued walking.
“Could’ve brought the milk back too.”
Behind him, the stump was empty.
By lunchtime Boomer had convinced himself the whole thing probably meant nothing.
Which was unfortunate, because somewhere else in Tasmania, an old broken radio had once said exactly the opposite.
Lore note: the identity of whatever took and returned Boomer’s mug remains unknown. The meaning and origin of the Zeehan teaspoon, and any connection to the warning in Yarn #001, remain deliberately unresolved. This Yarn does not define any protected Rift, Gateway or character mystery.
