Old Mate swore the busted radio hadn’t worked since 1987. It sat on a shelf in his shed between a rusty yabby net and a tin marked “Things I’ll Need One Day.” One night, during a storm, the radio crackled to life by itself and whispered three words:
“Don’t open Zeehan.”
Old Mate stared at it for a moment, took a sip of coffee, and unplugged it.
The radio kept talking.
So naturally, he covered it with a tea towel and went to bed.
Nobody believed the story the next morning.
Years later, someone noticed the frequency scratched into the back of the radio matched a signal coming from somewhere beyond the Rift.
Old Mate still insists it means nothing.
He also refuses to sell the radio.
